The Troll's Gate · Monochrome
In monochrome, Þjóðbrókargil stops being a place and becomes architecture. The basalt walls read as the nave of a dark cathedral, the river below as a path of light, and the pinnacle in the notch as the one figure standing in the doorway.
This is the same single exposure as The Troll's Gate, printed in the manner of a selenium-toned darkroom print: true blacks in the crevices, textured greys in the rock, and the water carried up to the brightest tones without ever losing its silk.
Of the two, this is the more dramatic — a print for a tall wall and low light.
